USDA acts to remove roadless rule restrictions that exacerbate rising wildfire risk

The U.S. Department of Forestry filed a proposed rule to wholly rescind the national 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which had previously prevented land managers from effectively performing wildfire reduction risk work across national forests. Essentially, the proposal removes regulatory burdens and places decision-making about roadless areas into the hands of local national forest managers. The proposal does not include any mandates for road construction or timber cutting.
